Alice Anna Ford was invited to participate in the 2024 Cowie International Zine Festival at Fugazi Gallery.
The festival assembled a travelling collection of artist zines, exhibited across Cowaramup, Los Angeles, and New York — forming a mobile archive accessible both locally in South West Australia and internationally in the United States.
Ford’s contribution, The Zine of Zines, operates as a narrated analogue publication.
The project traced zine culture through time — from witchcraft and science fiction to riot grrrl and the manifesto — using a dialogue between the reader (“YOU”) and a chosen narrator.
The publication functions as both archive and a potential portal.
Following the conclusion of the travelling exhibition in September 2024, the zine was released for open access.
The project situates zine-making as an counter cultural practice — a way of circulating change otherwise unpublished.
Further context on riot grrrl histories can be found via Grrrl, Collected.
