Alice Anna Ford was invited to participate in the 2024 Cowie International Zine Festival at Fugazi Gallery.
The festival assembled a travelling collection of artist zines, exhibited across Cowaramup, Los Angeles, and New York — forming a mobile archive accessible both locally in South West Australia and internationally in the United States.
Ford’s contribution, The Zine of Zines, operates as a narrated analogue publication. The work traces zine culture through time — from witchcraft and science fiction to riot grrrl and manifesto — staging a dialogue between the reader (“YOU”) and a chosen narrator. Rather than documenting history linearly, the zine positions the reader inside it, asking how movements are entered, inherited, and reimagined.
The publication functions as both archive and portal.
Following the conclusion of the travelling exhibition in September 2024, the zine was released for open access.
The project situates zine-making as a collective memory practice — a way of circulating voice, dissent, and speculative futures.
Further context on riot grrrl histories can be found via Grrrl, Collected.
